Nicholas R. Miller

Major/Minor: English Literature / Education with Certification
Varsity Baseball and Club Rugby

During his four years at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, Nick acted as one of the first tutors and mentors in the Colby Cares About Kids Program designed to provide academic and social guidance to local Middle School students.  He played in the outfield on the Baseball team, and Flanker for the State Champion Rugby Club Team.  Since college, Nick has taught at the Landmark High School in Beverly, MA.  He specializes in technical and expository writing, reading fluency, technology education, public speaking, and Lindamood-Bell tutorials.  In addition to a full courseload, Nick coaches Varsity Golf and JV Baseball.  He was recently named the 2007 EIL Coach of the Year for Varsity Golf.  Nick has an extensive background working with both students with moderate disabilities, and students in "mainstream" educational settings.  In 2006, Nick was awarded the Burke Grant for summer research and curriculum development through Landmark High School.  He created his dream class -- a hybrid fundamental writing skills class paired with higher level thinking skills, elements from Bloom's taxonomy, public speaking skills, and essential current events.  This class ultimately proved to be the impetus behind the East Coast Academic Center.  Nick is passionate about exposing students to current events and teaching them how to think and write critically about what they discover.  In addition to working at Landmark, Nick works as a private tutor for High School aged students and stresses the importance of self-discovery, meaningful discussion, and curiosity about the world in his tutorials as a means to access fundamental and essential academic skills.
